Appeals Board
The ANSI Appeals Board is responsible for considering appeals by directly and
materially affected persons (organizations, companies, government agencies,
individuals, and the like) who believe they have been, or will be, adversely
affected by a decision of ANSI. The Appeals Board is the final level of appeal
within the American National Standards Institute.
The ANSI Appeals Board shall consider appeals by directly and materially
affected persons (organizations, companies, government agencies, individuals,
and the like) who believe they have been, or will be, adversely affected by a
decision of ANSI, whether in the form of action or inaction or in the
implementation of ANSI procedures as they may be amended from time to time.

Membership in the Institute shall be a prerequisite for participation on the
ANSI Appeals Board, unless, the Board of Directors specifically permits an
exception. Members are chosen from a variety of categories within ANSI
membership, to represent the broadest number of members within ANSI.*
* The resident counsel of ANSI, or in his or her absence, outside ANSI counsel,
shall be a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Appeals Board.
The ANSI Appeals Board shall have a membership of not less than nine nor more
than eighteen members appointed by the chairperson of the Board of ANSI, with
the approval of the Board of Directors. Members shall be appointed for a term
of three years commencing on January 1, and shall be eligible for reappointment
for two additional 3-year terms. The maximum number of possible years of
service is 12 (if the member is serving as chair).
