Job Description:

The Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC), a North American trade association representing manufacturers, distributors and technology suppliers to the solid waste handling and recycling industry, seeks an experienced individual to staff and direct technical committees developing national standards, and to manage association programs. WASTEC is part of the environmental industry associations. WASTEC has two full-time staff supported by the EIA structure for accounting, membership services, meetings, information technology, legal, public affairs, and administrative support.

The position reports to the WASTEC Executive Vice President. The Director, Technical and Statistics Programs would be a candidate to move into the Executive Vice President’s position.

Salary based on relevant experience and skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

Standards:
  • Manage committee and association resources to develop, revise and publish the ANSI Z245 Series standards. The ANSI Z245 Committee currently has 8 approved standards.
  • Provide leadership, technical and managerial support to the committee and subcommittees.
  • Organize and administer committee activities including scheduling meetings, planning agendas, preparing minutes, conducting balloting and processing documents through ANSI.

Technical Programs:

  • Supervise the administration of WASTEC technical/safety programs, including:
    • Compactor Rating Program
    • Production of WASTEC Recommended Practices
  • Develop articles and educational materials to inform the industry of the standards and to facilitate their implementation, and to educate users about solid waste handling and recycling equipment.

Required Job Skills:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience in engineering, standards management or a related technical environment, and preferably 2 – 5 years of association (or similar) experience
  • Demonstrated technical writing ability
  • Editing and strong communications skills
  • Positive work ethic and desire to learn and advance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to travel 3-5 weeks per year (U.S.)
  • Strong computer (MS Office) skills

Desired Job Skills:

  • Experience managing ANSI secretariats or other committees writing voluntary U.S. standards highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD LT, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat.
