These courses were seen as a cost-effective mechanism to reach and educate a
wide target audience that may not be familiar with standards, ANSI or the U.S.
voluntary standards system.
ANSI’s first introductory e-learning course is for those who may not be familiar
with standards, ANSI or the U.S. voluntary standards system.
The course includes assignments, interactive activities and outlets for learner
feedback, Internet field trips (web links to relevant information),
self-assessment questions, a final exam, glossary and a list of frequently

is segmented into lessons that can be revisited by the user
Since its launch, Why Standards Matter has helped to raise the standards
awareness of more than 1,000 higher education faculty and students, high school
teachers and students, consumers, engineers, technologists, government and
corporate management and staff from standards organizations around the globe.
ANSI’s complimentary second e-learning program explains the U.S.
standards-setting process in several easy-to-understand modules. The
development process for American National Standards is featured. Other focus
areas include the impact of standards to industry and government; how the
evolving global climate influences content, function and harmonization issues;
and tips on how and why to participate in standards-setting activities.
