Presentations from September 25-26 Plenary on Emergency Preparedness
The fifth Plenary meeting of the ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel
(ANSI-HSSP) will be held on September 25-26, 2006 at
New York University in New York City. This day and a half event
(beginning at 1:00 pm on September 25th and concluding at 4:15 pm on September
26th) will be focused on the subject of Emergency Preparedness. The
meeting will bring together the homeland security standards community to review
progress that has been made and further work that needs to be done in this
area.
The keynote speaker for the event will be
Chief Joseph Pfeifer of the New York City Fire Department. As Chief of
Counterterrorism and Emergency Preparedness he leads the New York City Fire
Department’s disaster and terrorism preparedness efforts. Chief Pfeifer was the
first Chief at the World Trade Center attack and survived the collapse of both
towers. He served as the Planning Section Chief of the World Trade Center
Incident Command Team in the days following the collapse. He developed the GPS
Recovery System to document the location where victims were found at the World
Trade Center. He was co-project manager of the McKinsey Report, a study of the
FDNY response to the World Trade Center.
Included in the day-and-a-half program will be sessions on Assessing Private
Sector Preparedness; Emergency Preparedness in the Public Sector; Emergency
Preparedness Standards/Initiatives Making a Difference; and Credentialing for
Emergency Responders and On-Scene Personnel. Breakout sessions will
occur on the second day of the plenary, including Planning for a Global
Pandemic, Mass/Public Transportation Security and All Hazards Planning,
Response and Recovery.

For members of ANSI or the ANSI-HSSP, the meeting registration fee is $249
(includes admission, materials, breakfast, lunch, break refreshments and
admission to networking event). For non-members, the registration fee is $299.

venue, no on-site registrations will be accepted and all attendees must be
pre-registered. Valid photo identification must be presented to be admitted to
the meeting.
