Standards for Safety and Sustainability:
Examining the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act and Eco-labeling Issues
The 2009 ANSI Legal Issues Forum focused on how organizations engaged in standard-setting activities are affected by several legal developments. Discussions took place in two separate panels:
- The first panel addressed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) passed in 2008; what is it, how is it implemented by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and how does it address issues from a consumer’s perspective?
- Panel two examined legal issues related to eco-labeling, including diverse perspectives from the FTC, the Consumers Union, and more.
The Legal Issues Forum was part of the World Standards Week 2009 series of events.
The forum provided an opportunity for anyone engaged with standards – from
traditional standards developing organizations (SDOs) and consortia to
manufacturers and corporations – to profit from the knowledge of several
well-respected legal experts.
