Comments Requested on Proposal for ISO TC on Fraud Countermeasures

New York  August 28, 2008

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that a proposal for a new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) on Fraud Countermeasures and Controls is now open for public comment. The proposal was developed and submitted by the North American Security Products Organization (NASPO), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.

The scope of the proposal includes standardization in the field of the detection, prevention, and control of social and economic fraud, including identity, financial, and product fraud. It aims to bring together standards developers, criminologists, and experts in the fields of anti-fraud countermeasures and controls to form a TC that will initiate, evaluate, and support the standards being developed in this field. Standards developed by the proposed committee would provide a framework of support for public and private initiatives in diminishing the effects of fraud.

Comments on this proposal should be submitted to ANSI by Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Concurrent with this call for public comments, the ANSI Identity Theft Prevention and Identity Management Standards Panel (IDSP) will develop its recommendation on whether this proposal should be submitted to ISO.

Input from the open comment period and the ANSI-IDSP recommendation will be shared with the ANSI ISO Committee (AIC), which will decide at its October 1 meeting whether the proposal will be carried forward to ISO.
