INCITS Committee Leader Bob Snively Dies at 66

New York  February 25, 2009

Friends, members, staff, and colleagues of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) mourn the loss of Robert “Bob” Snively, engineer at Brocade Communications and longtime member of the standards community. Mr. Snively died on January 17, 2009. He was 66.

Mr. Snively joined Brocade Communications eight years ago following positions at IBM, STC-CRC, Adaptec, and Sun as an engineer. He worked tirelessly as the chair of multiple technical committees and head of the U.S. delegation to subcommittees of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission. In this capacity, he defined rational interfaces to help shape the future of storage connections.

Notably, Mr. Snively served for over eight years as the chair to InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) Technical Committee T11, Fiber Channel Interfaces. Since 1985, he was an active participant in both T11 and the closely–related Technical Committee T10, SCSI Storage Interfaces.

In addition to his work with the ICT standards community, Mr. Snively spent much of his time outdoors. He enjoyed tending his backyard farm, hiking, sailing, and traveling. Many of his actions were guided by his concern for sustainability and conservation.

Mr. Snively is survived by his wife, Sandy, two daughters, and five grandchildren.

Bob’s life will be celebrated by family and friends on April 15, 2009, in his orchard. His family asks for donations to Ashoka, the Environmental and Energy Study Institute, or Friends of the Morgan Hill Library in lieu of flowers.
