ASTM and ICC Collaborate to Promote Sustainable Building Codes in the Middle East
The International Code Council (ICC) and ASTM International have teamed up to support the use of sustainable construction codes and standards in the Middle East. As part of The Standards and Codes for Sustainable Construction project, the initiative aims to support and enhance energy efficiency, water conservation, materials management, building safety, and overall economic growth in the Gulf region.
ASTM and ICC's contributions will include technical seminars and training programs on sustainable codes and standards, as well as participation at trade shows and in standards development and green construction code meetings. The two organizations will also hold a codes and standards workshop in conjunction with the International Construction Technology and Building Materials Exhibition in Doha, Qatar. In the U.S., ICC and ASTM will host a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standardization Organization (GSO) to attend GreenBuild 2015.

ASHRAE Offers Free Guide on Advanced Energy Design for Grocery Stores
ASHRAE, an ANSI member and audited designator, has released a new publication on how to use energy-efficient design in grocery stores. Advanced Energy Design Guide for Grocery Stores provides recommendations for achieving 50% energy savings over minimum code requirements for grocery stores, whose use of refrigeration, HVAC systems, and food service areas can lead to unique challenges.
The publication is the fifth in a series of energy-saving guides that were developed by a committee with representatives from ASHRAE, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Department of Energy (DOE). IES and USGBC are ANSI members and accredited standards developers.

SAE Webinar to Feature Virtual Prototyping for Improved Automotive Safety
SAE International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is hosting a free webinar on the use of virtual prototyping, as well as physical modeling and simulation, in automotive development.
Attendees will learn how virtual prototyping can improve safety critical systems in cars, especially in regards to the embedded software in automotive systems. They will also learn about fault mode and effect analysis (FMEA) using virtual prototypes of a system, including mechanical, electrical, analog, and digital models that run the same software that will be used in the car itself.

IAPMO Webinar to Address Use of HUD Grants to Fund Code Enforcement
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced a free webinar offering suggestions on how grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program can be used to support code enforcement.
The webinar, hosted by IAPMO and HUD, will highlight several uses of HUD funds related to codes. They include salaries of code enforcement officials, equipment used for carrying out official duties such as vehicles or computers, and training and personnel certification.
