International Policy Papers and Charts

Critical Issue Papers

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has published a series of short briefing papers on a wide range of “critical issues” within the standardization community. Each paper contains an executive summary of the issue, a short background of the topic, and an overview of current issues. As appropriate, additional information resources are identified, as is the ANSI policy body responsible for addressing the issue.

These papers are intended to keep ANSI members informed of timely topics in the regional and international arenas and for use in the briefing of U.S. delegates to international meetings. The papers are publicly available and further distribution to interested parties is encouraged, but reference to ANSI’s development of these papers should be acknowledged.

Background Papers

The briefing papers shown below introduce ANSI members and constituents to a wide range of issues within the standardization community. Each paper is designed to provide quickly read information on subjects of interest to the ANSI membership. They will serve as a resource to members and staff alike when questions arise on the subjects identified. Within several of the papers are links to supporting documents.

These papers are intended to keep ANSI members informed of timely topics in the regional and international arenas and will be particularly useful in the briefing of U.S. delegates to international meetings.

ANSI staff will review the papers semi-annually with a view to keeping them as current as possible.

Each document is publicly available. Further distribution to interested parties is encouraged, but reference to ANSI’s development of these papers should be acknowledged.

Diagrams of Selected Countries’ Standards and Conformity Assessment Systems

Below are a series of PowerPoint presentations that contain charts of several countries' standards and conformity assessment systems, along with information on the entities listed on each chart, and links to those entities' websites. ANSI has endeavored to make these charts as accurate as possible based on the information obtained from various sources, but welcomes any suggestions for their improvement.
