Ed Laatsch, director of the Federal Emergency Management Administration’s Planning, Safety, and Building Science Division, has been selected by the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee as the recipient of the prestigious Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award. Laatsch will be honored during the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day on October 13.
Registration is now open for the U.S.-Philippines Cold Chain Standards and Innovation Workshop, to be hosted by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency with support from ANSI under the U.S.–Indo-Pacific Standards & Technology Cooperation Program on October 18-19.

To support the integration of standards education in undergraduate and graduate curricula nationwide, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded approximately $500,000 in grants to five U.S. universities. In an effort to support the growth of the clean cooking market in Mali, the Standard Alliance, a partnership between ANSI and the U.S. Agency for International Development, collaborated with Pivot Clean Energy Co. and the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency to co-host an intensive workshop, “Online Capacity Building Workshop: Introduction to Bioethanol for Clean Cooking.”
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released its “ISO Foresight Trend Report” to encourage discussion and exchange within the ISO system about future opportunities for international standardization. The report examines key trends relevant to standardization, with a focus on the economy, technology, society, politics, science, and the environment.
Submissions are due by September 30: In celebration of standards and their significant impact on the world, SES – The Society for Standards Professionals and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee will co-sponsor an annual paper competition for individuals in the U.S. standards community.
