ANSI Releases July Edition of Government Relations and Public Policy Monthly Update

Access the latest legislative and regulatory initiatives of significant relevance to the standardization community in the July edition of the ANSI Government Relations and Public Policy Monthly Update. The publication is a special new benefit to ANSI members, and is accessible via the government outreach section on ANSI.org.

U.S. Standards Efforts Support Assessment of Manufactured Nanomaterials Released in Consumer Products

In an effort to support decision-making related to the safe measurement of manufactured nanomaterials (MNM) released in consumer products, a new technical report co-led by the U.S. and Canada provides guidance for numerous sectors that use MNM. The report was a project of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 229, Nanotechnologies, Working Group 3, Health, safety and environment. Experts from the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO TC 229 spearheaded the guidance. ANSI, which administers the U.S. TAG for ISO TC 229, is the U.S. member body to ISO.

Get Involved: ISO Strategic Advisory Group on Smart Farming

Smart farming refers to the modern use of information and communication technologies in agriculture. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites prospective experts and leaders to join a new ISO Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) on smart farming, recently formed by the ISO Technical Management Board. ANSI and DIN, the German national organization for standardization, will co-lead the group, which was created to help address increasing pressure on the food chain from global challenges such as climate change, population growth, and risk from pandemics.

U.S. TAG Participants Sought for ISO Technical Committee on Pneumatic Tools and Machines

ANSI is seeking participants in the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO Technical Committee 118 Subcommittee 3, Pneumatic tools and machines. All U.S. stakeholder organizations in relevant fields and industries are strongly encouraged to get involved.

Electrical Air Cleaners: USNC Participants and TAG Administrator Sought

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is seeking participants and a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Administrator for the USNC TAG to IEC/Subcommittee 59N: Electrical air cleaners for household and similar purposes

Call for Nominations for ANAB Personnel Certification Accreditation Committee

The ANSI National Accreditation Board, a wholly owned subsidiary of ANSI, is accepting nominations from interested persons to serve on its Personnel Certification Accreditation Committee. Nominations must be received by Friday, August 20, 2021, and are for three-year terms beginning January 1, 2022

New Content! Workcred Unveils Final Phase of Workcred.org Updates

Workcred has launched the final phase of its website re-design, with additional features, updates, and interactive graphics that provide in-depth details about credentials. The re-design, with phase one changes revealed in May 2021, reflects a more mobile-responsive and user-friendly Workcred.org. 

USNC's New Interactive Dashboard Provides Easy Access to Content

Check out USNC's newest tool for need-to-know information! Visitors who use USNC's new dashboard can navigate new categorized pages to view USNC TAG participants and member organizations by sector, USNC IEC leadership metrics, USNC members by the numbers, and descriptions of IEC positions.

NIST Issues Call for Papers on Cybersecurity Labeling Programs for Consumers

The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued a request for submissions on suggestions and feedback on the challenges and practical approaches to consumer software labeling. Responses, due by August 17, will help NIST to carry out one of its multiple assignments in the Executive Order 14028, Improving the Nation's Cybersecurity.

NIST Requests Information to Help Develop an AI Risk Management Framework

As part of its broader effort to manage risks posed by artificial intelligence, NIST has issued a request for information (RFI) from the public to inform the development of AI risk management guidance. Submit feedback by August 19.

IEC Publishes Interview with Philip Wennblom, Chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information Technology

Philip Wennblom, who recently began his second term as the chair of the only joint technical committee of ISO and IEC, ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Information Technology, recently reflected on the committee's progress and what lies ahead in his work, in an interview for IEC's e-tech.
