February 14-20 Is National Engineers Week
This week is National Engineers Week, centering on programs that reach out to current and future generations of engineering talent. The week features a toolkit that promotes volunteerism among engineers, an initiative to introduce young women to engineering, and more.
Many sponsors of National Engineering Week are members of the American National Standards Institute, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, ASME, IEEE, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering & Surveying, and the Project Management Institute.

SCTE Announces New Program on Green Practices for Cable System Operators
The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, announced The Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI), an initiative that is designed to help cable system operators to leverage the financial and environmental advantages of implementing "green" strategies.
SEMI's agenda for 2010 includes forums to raise awareness of developing solutions and how they apply to cable operations; an intensive research and thought leadership program; expanded panels and exhibit platforms at SCTE events; development of best practices in the area of energy management; and practical technology demonstrations.

Mobility Golf Applies for Accreditation as ANSI Accredited Standards Developer
Mobility Golf, a new full ANSI Organizational Member in 2010, has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer and proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on proposed American National Standards. Mobility Golf's proposed scope of standards activity is to provide safety and performance standards for adaptive golf cars. Adaptive golf cars have hand controls and a swivel seat so that they can be used by those with a mobility disability.

ANSI Approves U.S. TAG to ISO TC 227 on Springs
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has approved the accreditation of a new U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 227, Springs, with the Spring Manufacturers Institute, a new full organizational ANSI member in November 2009, serving as Secretariat. NSF Applies for U.S. TAG to ISO TC 249 on Traditional Chinese Medicine
NSF International, a full ANSI Organizational Member, has submitted an application for accreditation for a proposed U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/TC 249, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a request for approval as TAG Administrator. The proposed TAG intends to operate using the Model Operating Procedures for U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ANSI for ISO Activities as contained in Annex A of the ANSI International Procedures.
