The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, May, 13, 2011, in Washington, DC. The meeting will feature guest speaker Jeff Weiss, senior director for technical barriers to trade at the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).

Mr. Weiss is primarily responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of U.S. trade policy regarding voluntary and mandatory product standards, including those related to labeling and packaging, and procedures to demonstrate compliance with such standards. He chairs the U.S. interagency Trade Policy Staff Committee (TPSC) Subcommittee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), and serves as the USTR representative to Industry Trade Advisory Committee 16, which provides advice to the U.S. government on trade and standards-related measures.

Mr. Weiss has devoted particular attention to resolving specific market access problems facing U.S. agricultural and industrial exporters and addressing systemic TBT before the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade, where he represents the United States. He is also the lead U.S. negotiator for the TBT chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations and is actively involved in TBT-related negotiations in the WTO's Doha Round.

Sponsored by ANSI, the Caucus will be held on May 13 from 11:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, Zenger Room) in Washington, DC. RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
