ASPE Receives Approval as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer

NSF International and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), both members of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance and promote public health and sustainability initiatives within the plumbing industry. The MOU impacts the design, specifications, installation, inspection, and regulation of plumbing systems.

NSF International and ASPE share a common mission of advancing the science of plumbing engineering and human health. Under the MOU, they will work together to promote and educate others about the importance of innovation and sustainability within the plumbing industry. They intend to jointly develop educational resources and promote conferences and publications that highlight water quality and conservation and help foster safer, more efficient water and wastewater delivery and treatment systems around the world.

ASPE is an international organization for professionals skilled in the design, specification, and inspection of plumbing systems. Strengthening ASPE's ability to contribute to the development of effective voluntary-consensus standards for safe water and plumbing, ANSI's Executive Standards Council has approved ASPE as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) under its proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on proposed American National Standards, effective May 18, 2012.

NSF International is one of six ANSI audited designators - an ASD that has demonstrated a consistent record of successful voluntary standards development. NSF writes public health standards and protocols and tests and certifies products for the water, food, and consumer goods industries.
