In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes a series of snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Electrical Power Systems
Tractors are the most common piece of equipment found on any farm as they provide the muscle power needed for modern agricultural enterprises. They are often equipped with front end loaders, a front-mounted square wide bucket used to scoop up dirt, snow, feed, gravel, logs, sand, or other loose material and move it from one place to another without pushing the material across the ground. Unfortunately, every year, front end loaded tractor accidents cause property damage, reduced productivity, increased operating costs, personal injuries, and even death.
In an effort to provide a reasonable degree of personal safety for operators and other persons during normal operation and servicing of front end loaders on agricultural tractors, a new ANS has been released by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), an ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer. ASAE S583.1 AUG2015, Safety for Agricultural Front End Loaders, specifies safety requirements for the design and construction of agricultural front end loaders designed to be mounted on agricultural wheeled tractors as defined in ANSI/ASAE 390.5, Definitions and Classifications of Agricultural Field Equipment.
