Presented in conjunction with World Standards Week, the Leadership and Service Awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to voluntary consensus standardization and conformity assessment programs and have consistently demonstrated a commitment to their industry, their nation, and the enhancement of the global standards and conformance system.
This year's nominations are due on July 16, 2010. Click here to access the nominations brochure.
The new award was established this year in honor of Gerald H. Ritterbusch, retired director of standards and regulations at Caterpillar and former chairman of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 127, Earth-moving machinery. In addition, Mr. Ritterbusch made many contributions to ANSI Governance through long-standing service on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and the Company Member Forum.
A stalwart champion in the formative years of ANSI's Accreditation Programs and voice of industry needs, Mr. Ritterbusch was chairman of ANSI's Board Committee on Conformity Assessment (precursor of today's Conformity Assessment Policy Committee), as well as chairman of the Joint Oversight Board of the ANSI-RAB National Accreditation Program (predecessor to the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board). Mr. Ritterbusch was also the recipient of the Howard Coonley Medal in 2002.
"Disciplined conformity assessment activities can increase consumer confidence and facilitate transfer and integration of personnel, products, systems, processes, and services across borders," said Lane Hallenbeck, ANSI vice president of accreditation services. "ANSI is pleased to introduce this new medal to honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to this critical aspect of the global marketplace."
ANSI will honor the 2010 recipient of this new medal alongside the other Leadership and Service Awards on Wednesday evening, September 22, at a banquet and ceremony to be held at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, VA. For more information, visit ansi.org/awards.
