AWWA Offers Webinar on Updates to EPA's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule ANSI accredited standards developer and organizational member the
American Water Works Association (AWWA) will host a webinar on
Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule 3 - What Your Utility Needs to Know on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The webinar will cover requirements for water utilities and laboratories for the
Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA)
Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule 3 (UCMR 3). UCMR3 was published in May 2012 and includes a number of significant changes from UCMR 2. This webcast will provide utilities and laboratories with key insights into how to begin planning, actions that can be taken now, and where to access relevant resources. The discussion will also include a presentation by EPA staff on the requirements of the rule, as well as an analysis of the rule as it applies to water utilities and to water utility laboratories. FCBA Course to Inform IT Industry of Possible Revisions to ITRs The
Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA) will host a continuing legal education course on possible revisions to the 1989 treaty on
International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs) on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Bingham McCutchen LLP, located at 2020 K Street, NW, in Washington, DC. The
World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT), a treaty-writing conference scheduled for December 3-14, 2012, where ITRs will be revised, could significantly expand the jurisdiction and legal authority of the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU), potentially giving the
United Nations agency greater influence over internet governance, as well as major telecoms issues such as accounting rates and termination charges for next generation networks, data privacy, cybersecurity, spam, and international mobile roaming. The FCBA course will provide an overview of the ITU, WCIT, and ITRs, including a description of the structure of the current treaty and the WCIT preparatory process. Presentations will be made by U.S. government officials from the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the
AmDepartment of State. The course will also discuss the major substantive issues up for debate at the WCIT, and ample time will be allotted for an interactive Q&A session.

Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (ASD), with the proposed scope of standards activities for design, detailing, fabrication, placement, and construction of assemblies consisting of steel reinforcement and associated products for use in reinforced concrete and masonry construction.
