The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that Elise Owen will step down from her position as the Institute's director of international policy and representative for China affairs on February 22, 2013. Following her departure from ANSI, Ms. Owen will begin work as the associate vice president for global strategy and analysis for ANSI member the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), where she will focus on China and related issues.
Prior to joining ANSI in 2006, Ms. Owen was employed as an international trade specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC)'s International Trade Administration (ITA), where she worked to bolster U.S.-China trade and address bilateral concerns connected with standards and related subjects areas.
Ms. Owen received her undergraduate degree from New York's Regent's College, now known as Excelsior College, and her MBA from the University of Hawaii's College of Business Administration. She is proficient in both Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, and is certified by the Defense Language Institute and Foreign Language Center, where she served while enlisted in the U.S. Army.
The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), an ANSI member, has announced that Roger Williams, M.D., its longtime chief executive officer (CEO), will step down from his position on June 30, 2014, in keeping with previous contractual agreements. The Executive Committee of USP's Board of Trustees expects to announce the initiation of a search committee and the selection of an associated executive search firm in connection with the CEO position during the first quarter of 2013.
As part of his duties at USP, Dr. Williams - the convention's fourth CEO - also serves as the 15th chair of its Council of Experts, the scientific standards-setting body that oversees revision of USP's standards compendia, including the United States Pharmacopeia. Prior to joining USP in 2000, Dr. Williams, a clinical pharmacologist and board-certified internist, worked in academia and at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He received his undergraduate degree from Ohio's Oberlin University and his medical degree from Illinois's University of Chicago School of Medicine.
