In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Pool and Hot Tub Hoses and Tubes
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), swimming and other water-based activities are excellent ways to get the recommended two-and-a-half hours of aerobic exercise per week, and carry a large number physical and mental health benefits. To ensure the pools and tubs that swimmers and hot tub users occupy are safe and healthy, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) recently published IAPMO/ANSI Z1033-2013e1, Flexible PVC Hoses and Tubing for Pools, Hot Tubs, Spas, and Jetted Bathtubs.
A new ANS released by the American Ladder Institute (ALI) will help protect ladder users when using accessories. ANSI/ASC A14.8-2013, Safety Requirements for Ladder Accessories, prescribes rules for governing the safe design, construction, and testing of accessories used in conjunction with a portable wood, metal, or reinforced plastic ladder.
ALI, an ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer, is a not-for-profit membership association serving ladder and components manufacturers throughout North America through the development and disseminate of standards for design, construction, testing, care, and use of ladders. ALI is also dedicated to promoting ladder safety and works to educate the public on the selection, care, and safe use of ladders.
