The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is seeking participants in the new ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 291 on Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances. All U.S. stakeholder organizations in relevant fields and industries are strongly encouraged to get involved.
As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI accredits U.S. TAGs to develop and transmit U.S. positions on ISO technical activities. ANSI member and audited designator Underwriters Laboratories (UL) serves as the ANSI-accredited administrator of the U.S. TAG to ISO TC 291. The Secretariat has been allocated to DIN, the German Institute for Standardization.
The scope of the work of TC 291 covers standardization in the field of domestic gas cooking appliances, including:
Terminology
Classification
Constructional and performance characteristics
Test methods and marking
Cookstoves covered by the standards being developed in ISO TC 285, Clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions, are excluded from this scope. ANSI serves as the ISO TC 285 secretariat in partnership with the Kenyan member body to ISO, the Kenya Bureau of Standards. ANSI also serves as the U.S. TAG administrator to ISO TC 285, with technical and financial support from the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, part of the United Nations Foundation.
Prospective U.S. TAG participants for ISO TC 291 or for more information, contact U.S. TAG Secretary Nicolette Allen at Nicolette.Allen@ul.com or the ANSI ISO team at isot@ansi.org.
