The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that nearly 25,000 injuries occur annually due to accidents involving ladders. .
A new ANS recently released by the American Ladder Institute (ALI) will help protect ladder users when using ladder accessories, such as stabilizers, surface protectors, platforms, extensions, leg levelers, trays, and braces. ANSI/ASC A14.8-2013, Safety Requirements for Ladder Accessories, prescribes rules for governing the safe design, construction, and testing of accessories used in conjunction with a portable wood, metal, or reinforced plastic ladder.
ALI, an ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer, is a not-for-profit membership association serving ladder and components manufacturers throughout North America through the development and dissemination of standards for design, construction, testing, care, and use of ladders. ALI is also dedicated to promoting ladder safety and works to educate the public on the selection, care, and safe use of ladders.
