People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries, a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Philip Carmichael as its president - Asia. He will lead the organization's operations and staff in Asia and oversee strategy development and execution.
Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Carmichael was IPC's president for greater China. He will continue to work out of IPC's China headquarters office in Qingdao.
Mr. Carmichael has many years of experience developing and expanding businesses in the Asia-Pacific region. He has lived in Asia for nearly 35 years, and has a strong knowledge of cross-cultural leadership and business-to-business markets.
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced three additions to their staff.
Robert A. Neale has joined ICC as its vice president of fire service activities. Mr. Neale will develop, coordinate, direct, and implement programs related to fire safety and fire service. Additionally, he will lead efforts to adopt the International Fire Code, and work closely with partner organizations in the fire service community. In 2012 Mr. Neale was awarded the FEMA Administrator's Award for Innovation. He holds many certifications related to fire service, including ICC Fire Inspector II, Certified Uniform Fire Code Inspector, and Fire Service Instructor I.
Christopher E. Ochoa has been named ICC's vice president of government relations for federal activities. He will lead relations and communication with federal administrators and agencies, Congress, and professional organizations. Prior to joining ICC, Mr. Ochoa was a partner in the Ochoa & Moore Law Firm, where he served as director of the legislative, administrative, and sports representation divisions.
Bryan J. Soukup has been appointed manager of government relations for the mid-Atlantic region. He will oversee relationships with state and jurisdictional code officials, elected officials, ICC Chapters, contractors, building owners and managers, and private companies in the mid-Atlantic region, including Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Prior to joining ICC, Mr. Soukup was the manager of state and local government relations for the American Institute of Architects.
The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), an ANSI member, has announced that John Lenhart will serve as its director of global policy for China.
Prior to joining ITI, Mr. Lenhart was the director and chief representative of the U.S.-China Business Council's Beijing office. There, he managed strategic planning for the USCBC's policy research and advocacy activities in Beijing. He is fluent in Mandarin and has spent over a decade working in China.
"Over the course of his career, John has developed a reputation as a committed problem solver and a trusted and respected voice for companies doing business in China," said ITI senior vice president for global policy Josh Kallmer. "John's knowledge of China policy issues and experience representing the international business community before the Chinese government will be a tremendous asset to ITI, our member companies, and the global technology sector as a whole."
The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has named David McDonald as its interim president. Mr. McDonald will oversee the Institute's daily operations.
Mr. McDonald has served as CRSI's manager director of the Epoxy Interest Group for six years, guiding their technical and marketing efforts. Previously, he was a senior research associate for a Fortune 500 organization with both personnel and financial responsibilities, and a consulting engineer specializing in construction materials.
