CSA Offers Tips for Safe Use of Turkey Fryers
CSA Group, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of safety tips for users of outdoor turkey fryers this fall. Tips include:
Ensure that the turkey fryer is on a stable, level, non-combustible surface. It cannot be on a wooden deck.
Dry the turkey outside and in before putting it in the oil. Some marinades may react with the hot fryer oil.
Never heat the oil above 400F (200C). Turn the gas off if the oil begins to smoke.
Do not move the pot or drain the oil until it has cooled to 115F (45F) or less.
