In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Ladder Standards
The distillation process, which utilizes a heat source to vaporize water, removes nearly all impurities from drinking water, including most minerals, most bacteria and viruses, and any chemicals that have a higher boiling point than water.
NSF/ANSI 62-2017, Drinking Water Distillation Systems, establishes minimum materials, design and construction, and performance requirements for point-of-use and point-of-entry drinking water distillation systems and the components used in these systems.
The American National Standard (ANS) was developed by the NSF Joint Committee on Drinking Water Treatment Units. Systems covered under the standard are intended to reduce substances affecting the aesthetic quality of the water or to add chemicals for scale control, or both.
An ANSI member and accredited standards developer, NSF International writes public health standards and protocols and tests, and certifies products for the water, food, and consumer goods industries.
