ICC-SRCC and APSP Release ANSI-Accredited Solar Pool and Spa Heating System Standard
The Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (ICC-SRCC) and the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, have announced the release of a new American National Standard (ANS). ICC/APSP 902/SRCC 400-2017, Solar Pool and Spa Heating System Standard, establishes minimum requirements for safety, performance, and installation of solar heating systems installed in residential and commercial swimming pools.
"We are very proud to present this new standard, which is the result of several years of hard work by the Committee members and Code Council staff," said ICC-SRCC director Shawn Martin. "Later this year, ICC-SRCC will be launching a new program to certify solar pool heating systems to this new standard, adding to the growing list of exceptional products and services that we provide our clients."
"APSP is pleased to partner with ICC on the development of this landmark ANSI standard for solar technology as it applies to swimming pools. We are encouraged that it may be the first of several to follow for the swimming pool industry," said APSP vice president of technical and standards Carvin DiGiovanni.
ICC-SRCC is a program of the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), which is a member of the ICC Family of Companies, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.
May 4 ISO Seminar in Houston on Reliability Technology and Cost Area
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 67 Working Group (WG) 4 on Reliability engineering and technology, invites interested stakeholders to the 4th ISO Seminar on International Standardization in the Reliability Technology and Cost Area, on May 4 in Houston. The seminar is hosted by Statoil, and a collaborative effort of ISO TC 67 and the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP). The seminar will provide an overview and status of standards developed by WG4 and guidance for their practical application, with a focus on:
-ISO 14224, Collection and exchange of reliability and maintenance data for equipment
-ISO 20815, Production assurance and reliability management
-ISO 19008, Standard cost coding system for gas production and processing facilities
The seminar is relevant to engineering/technical and information technology personnel in the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries, with relevance to operating, contracting, and service companies, engineering and construction firms, equipment manufacturers, safety and reliability consultancies, certification bodies, regulatory and safety authorities, research and development, and more. Advance registration is required, and the RSVP deadline is April 19.

ASTM White Paper Suggests Partnership between Standards and Innovation Communities
ASTM International, an ANSI member and audited designator, has released a white paper that encourages collaboration between the global standardization and innovation communities.
"Standards Development: Enabling Manufacturing Innovation and Accelerating Commercialization" highlights the importance of proactive measures in international standards development activities so that they can keep pace with marketplace innovation, and outlines how a collaborative approach to voluntary consensus standards development can lead to further innovation initiatives.
"More than ever before, businesses throughout the world need high-quality standards that evolve in tandem with rapid advances in 3D printing, nanotechnology, robotics, and other cutting-edge fields," said Katharine Morgan, ASTM International president. "Together, we can meet that challenge by creating aligned roadmaps, by maximizing participation in standards development, and more."

NSF White Paper Details Methods for Quantifying and Reporting Sustainability Impacts
NSF International, an ANSI member and audited designator, has published a new white paper from their sustainability group on the best ways that companies can quantify and report the impact of their sustainability efforts.
The paper may be helpful for organizations wishing to take responsibility for their sustainability impacts, highlight their reduction efforts, and measure their progress with social, environmental, and economic indicators. It provides a framework for developing and reporting sustainability metrics centered on asking if the metrics are clear and meaningful, if they are defensible from the viewpoint of a third party, and if they are relevant to a specific sustainability concern.

AHAM Provides Tips for Keeping Pets Safe Around Appliances
The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is providing pet owners with some safety suggestions to keep their animal companions safe near home appliances.
Safety tips include:
-Keep washing machine and dryer doors closed, and check before using them to make sure that a pet hasn't climbed inside.
-Keep cords for portable appliances out of reach. Pets may chew on them and be burned or electrocuted as a result.
-When choosing a portable heater, look for one with covered heating elements and other safety features, like automatic turn-off if it is tipped over.
