In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Videoconference Room Lighting
As the number of telecommuting professionals rises, videoconferencing is becoming an increasingly common fixture in offices where participants in a meeting are not able to join in person. Having the appropriate lighting and camera setup can improve the quality of the video presentation exponentially, allowing participants to see and hear each other more clearly and communicate with greater ease.
An ANS developed by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA) guides professionals involved in the design, construction, assessment, and support of these videoconferencing environments. ANSI/IES/AVIXA RP-38-17, Recommended Practice for Lighting Performance for Small to Medium Sized Videoconferencing Rooms, provides lighting parameters and performance criteria for videoconferencing spaces with 3 to 25 seating locations, where there is one set of video displays and cameras oriented toward a group of seated participants. The standard establishes performance criteria for the design and testing of room lighting and finishes to assure appropriate picture quality.
