In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Lighting Systems for Horticultural Environments
When a machine or mechanism requires a gear that can offer a delicate speed adjustment using a large speed reduction, a worm gear is often employed. Used for gear boxes, fishing pole reels, instrument string tuning pegs, and many other applications, worm gears are compact, self-locking, and quiet. A new ANS developed by the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) provides guidelines for the design of fine and coarse pitch cylindrical wormgearing operating at right angles, primarily made as gear sets to be incorporated into other machines and mechanisms. ANSI/AGMA 6022-D19, Design Manual for Cylindrical Wormgearing, also offers many design procedures that can be incorporated in enclosed drives.
