8/29/2016

Roy Swift, Ph.D., executive director of Workcred, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate, was recently honored by SES-The Society for Standards Professionals at the 66th Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado.

A recipient of the prestigious Leo B. Moore Award, SES's highest honor, Dr. Swift (pictured with Carol Herman of AAMI- Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, awards chair) is recognized for his extraordinary contributions to and distinguished service in the field of standardization and conformity assessment. The award is named for the late Dr. Leo B. Moore, a professor-emeritus from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, and was first given by SES in 1963 to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Robert S. McNamara.

Dr. Swift, a retired United States Army colonel, currently leads Workcred's efforts to strengthen workforce quality by improving the credentialing system, ensuring its ongoing relevance, and preparing employers, workers, educators, and governments to use it effectively. He also regularly represents and speaks on behalf of the Credential Transparency Initiative (CTI), which serves to create greater clarity in the U.S. credentialing marketplace. CTI is led by the George Washington University's Institute of Public Policy (GWIPP), Workcred, and Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale's Center for Workforce Development, and is supported by a grant from the Lumina Foundation.

In addition to these efforts, Dr. Swift has served as the chief workforce development officer at ANSI, and prior to that, as the senior director of personnel credentialing accreditation programs. Dr. Swift recently served on an Institute of Medicine of the National Academies Panel dealing with Provision of Mental Health Counseling Services under TRICARE, and a planning committee for the future of Allied Health Practice.

Additionally, Dr. Swift recently chaired an international working group within the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) to recognize personnel certifications among member countries through the development of multilateral recognition arrangements. He is also active on working groups related to personnel credentialing in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and is a guest lecturer at the University of Geneva on credentialing.
