People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Abraham I. Murra as director of standards development. He will oversee development and maintenance of IAPMO's full line of standards, including the ANSI-accredited Z124 consensus standards for plastic plumbing products and the Z1000 series for waste disposal products.

Mr. Murra previously worked at the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) as project manager, sustainability standards, managing 16 national and bi-national committees that developed and maintained technical standards for plumbing products. Most recently, he led committees developing standards on water conservation, water reuse, and wastewater.

Prior to emigrating to Canada from Colombia in 2000, Mr. Murra worked as a construction project manager and general manager at Azahara Constructors in Bogotá. He holds a degree in civil engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and a master's of civil engineering from Cornell University.

IAPMO works in concert with government and industry for safe, sanitary plumbing and mechanical systems.

ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) has announced the appointment of Bruce DeMaine as director of certifications and standards. He will be responsible for developing new personnel certifications and standards for the home energy efficiency retrofit marketplace. He will play a critical role in establishing BPI's certifications as national standards for the home performance workforce by guiding BPI through ANSI's personnel certification accreditation process.

A 25-year veteran of the environmental certification and accreditation field, Mr. DeMaine most recently served as vice president of certifications for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Prior to GBCI, Mr. DeMaine founded Precision Preservation and Inspection (PPI), a consulting firm specializing in areas of ISO quality systems, strategic planning, business process improvement, environmental compliance, and safety initiatives. He previously spent ten years as director of corporate QA, facilities, and safety for NSF International.

BPI is a leader in building performance credentialing, quality assurance, and standards setting, developing technical standards using an open, transparent, consensus-based process built on sound building science.
