People on the Move

7/26/2019

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Patrick Hughes as its vice president of operations and strategy. He will oversee NEMA's technical operations and strategic planning.

Mr. Hughes previously served as NEMA's senior director of government relations and strategic initiatives. In that role, he led the organization's work in electric grid, electric vehicle, energy storage, Internet of Things, and cybersecurity policy advocacy. He joined NEMA as the director of the High-Performance Buildings Council. Prior to that, Mr. Hughes was a congressional aide and worked at the United Nations Foundation, advocating for energy efficiency and grid modernization.

"Patrick has accomplished a great deal in his time at NEMA - revitalizing the Strategic Initiatives program, launching an organization-wide strategic planning effort, and advocating for our members' interests on Capitol Hill as well as at the state and local levels," said Kevin J. Cosgriff, NEMA president and CEO. "Patrick is a forward-looking and strategic thinker who is skilled at reducing complicated technical issues to their essence and crafting clear action plans to deliver value to members. These skills will serve him well as he leads the standards development and technical work of the NEMA operations department now and into the future."

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that Mark Chanski will be its new education director. In this role, Mr. Chanski will head the organization's Education and Outreach Committee, and serve as the lead staff for all matters related to state and national boater education programs.

Previously, Mr. Chanski worked at the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for twelve years. He has served on NASBLA's Education and Outreach Committee, participated in their Education Standards Council, and graduated from the NASBLA Leadership Academy. Mr. Chanski has also been a subject matter expert in the field validation process for all of the National On-Water Standards Program domains, and volunteered on a NASBLA project that followed ANSI guidelines to develop on-water boating course validation procedures.

Mr. Chanski will assume the position following Pamela Dillon's retirement in late 2019.
