November 18 ANSI Webinar Focuses on ISO Climate Change Standards and Cities

11/03/2014

Includes Open Discussion with Members of ANSI's Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities

On November 18th the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities (ANSI Cities Network) will host a free informational webinar from 2-3:30 pm Eastern Standard Time on the applicability of the climate change standards of the International Organization for Standardization to cities and local governments. ANSI is the U.S. national member body to ISO, a network of standards bodies from over 160 countries.

Climate change is the preeminent issue of our time. Catastrophic weather events like Super storm Sandy have shown the serious ramifications of climate change on cities. The November 18th webinar will focus on the work program of ISO Technical Committee (TC) 207, Subcommittee (SC) 7, Greenhouse gas management and related activities, which primarily deals with measuring, reducing, managing and verifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The requirements defined in ISO 14065:2007, Greenhouse gases - Requirements for greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies for use in accreditation or other forms of recognition, are the basis for ANSI's accreditation program for organizations providing third-party validation/verification services for the reduction and removal of GHG. The standards published by SC 27 can be found on ANSI's webstore.

The webinar's featured speaker will be Tom Baumann, chair of ISO/TC 207/SC 7. Mr. Baumann is leading work on development of SC7's strategic roadmap to guide standards development on a range of issues including a new work item proposal Framework Standard, and climate change adaptation and resilience, among many others. Mr. Baumann co-founded the GHG Management Institute, the world's leading GHG training provider with 1000s of experts in over 100 countries. Mr. Baumann also co-founded ClimateCHECK, a professional services company, as well as Interactive Leader, a web-based knowledge management solutions company, and the Collaborase online platform - used by sustainability and green standardization initiatives implementing "Interactive Standards 2.0" systems. Mr. Baumann is featured in the November issue of the ISO Focus magazine.

The November 18 webinar is the latest in a series of monthly web meetings hosted by the ANSI Cities Network, a venue where public officials, experts in urban infrastructure and sustainability, and standards professionals convene to share information on relevant standardization activities. Following Mr. Baumann's presentation and Q&A , there will be an opportunity for open information sharing among all webinar participants.
