Recent event was part of World Standards Week

Expert legal panelists gathered with nearly 80 audience stakeholders to discuss patent policies and licensing assurances in Washington, DC, for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Legal Issues Forum, held on an annual basis as part of the World Standards Week series of events.

Patricia Griffin, vice president and general counsel, ANSI, launched the first session with her presentation entitled, "The Patent Policy - Demystified," in which she explained the significance of the ANSI Patent Policyone of six "Normative American National Standards Policies," found in Section 3.1 of the ANSI Essential Requirements.

The event was separated into two panels - the first discussed the issue from the perspective of patent holders and implementers, and the second from the perspective of the standards developing organization (SDO).

Panel one included speakers Michael Cameron of Ericsson, Fabian Gonell of Qualcomm, Leon Greenfield of WilmerHale, and Paul O'Donnell of O'Donnell PLLC, along with moderator Henry Wixon of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The second panel included Brad Biddle of Biddle Law, Michael Lindsay of Dorsey and Whitney, Richard Taffet of Morgan Lewis, and Andrew Updegrove of Gesmer Updegrove, along again with moderator Henry Wixon of NIST.
