Webinar: U.S. TAG Participants Sought for Potential New ISO Field of Activity on Gold

1/17/2017

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will host a WebEx meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET for relevant U.S. stakeholders to discuss the possible formation of a U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to support U.S. national consensus-based participation in a new proposed field of activity on gold within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), should the proposal be approved. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites all relevant and interested stakeholders to participate.

As ANSI recently reported, the proposal covering the formulation and revision of international standards on gold in the fields of the development, recovery, and recycling of gold ores, gold concentrates, gold alloys, gold compounds, gold materials, and gold will be launched covering three levels:

Level 1: The new Technical Committee (TC) will focus on basic standards covering gold terminology and standards on the packaging, labeling, transport, and storage of gold products.

Level II: This will cover testing and assaying standards, including the standards on the methods for chemical analysis and the standards on the physical properties test.

Level III: This level will cover product standards, including the standards on the development, recovery and recycling of gold ores, gold concentrates, gold alloys, gold compounds, gold materials, and gold, and the related safety, environmental protection, and occupational health issues.

According to the proposal, Level I and Level II would be the initial areas of focus, and globally recognized gold terminology will form the basis for developing other standards. The new TC would then turn to standards on key products and the environmental, health, and safety standards articulated as part of Level III.

All interested stakeholders are invited to review the proposal, which includes listings of relevant standards as well as affected stakeholder categories that may benefit from or be impacted by the proposed deliverable.
