ANSI Organizes Four Workshops under USTDA-Sponsored U.S.-China SCCP

12/01/2014

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recently organized four workshops under the U.S.-China Standards and Conformity Assessment Cooperation Program (SCCP), an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The program calls on ANSI to organize a total of 20 workshops over three years, covering a wide range of sectors and issues related to standards and conformity assessment. ANSI has organized a total of 11 SCCP workshops in China to date, including the following recent events :

  • The Sino-U.S. Air Purification Technology Workshop was organized in cooperation with Oransi and the U.S. Commercial Service. The event took place September 17 in Beijing, and included sessions on air purification tests, standards and certification from both the U.S. and Chinese perspectives, and an overview of related technologies and market trends. Six U.S.-based air purifier manufacturers gave introductions to their companies, products, and interest in China.
  • The U.S.-China Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Workshop Xinjiang was organized in cooperation with the Clean Air Task Force and the U.S. Commercial Service. The event took place September 18 in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Discussion topics included current CCUS projects in Xinjiang, the opportunity for future projects, and an overview of relevant technologies. The event received high-level support from both the U.S. and Chinese governments, including from U.S. Ambassador to China Max Baucus.
  • The 3rd Electrostatic Protection and Standardization Seminar was organized in cooperation with the Electrostatic Discharge Association (ESDA). The event took place October 14 in Shanghai, and follows the successful 1st and 2nd annual conferences held in 2012 and 2013 [see related articles here and here]. Sessions addressed electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for electronic products and satellites, the effects of moisture on ESD, and an update on relevant standards and testing procedures. ANSI also facilitated discussions between ESDA and the China National Institute for Standardization (CNIS) on the sidelines of the workshop to advance cooperative plans between the two organizations.
  • The Anticorrosion Technology and Standardization International Seminar was organized in cooperation with NACE International. The event took place November 3 in Shanghai, and builds on a 2013 seminar NACE and ANSI organized under the U.S.-China SCCP that provided an overview of U.S. and Chinese anticorrosion standards [see related article]. This year's seminar included a discussion of relevant standards for oil tankers, petroleum pipelines, waterborne structures, and railways, among other topics.

Proceedings from the workshops are available on the U.S.-China SCCP web page, and photo galleries are available on ANSI's Flickr page.
