ISO/IEC 17025: An Update

The new version of ISO/IEC 17025an international reference for laboratories to carry out calibration and testing activities around the worldwas developed by a committee of worldwide laboratory experts. The standard helps facilitate cooperation between laboratories and other bodies by generating wider acceptance of results between countries. A new structure has been adopted to align the standard with other existing ISO/IEC standards such as the ISO/IEC 17000 series on conformity assessment.

The ISO Committee for Conformity Assessment (CASCO) is the technical committee that developed the standard, which is relevant to universities, research centers, governments, regulators, inspection bodies, product certification organizations, and other conformity assessment bodies that perform testing, sampling, or calibration. ANSI is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) administrator for CASCO, carrying forth U.S. positions to the international technical committee.
