NFPA Quiz and Sweepstakes Publicize Cooking Fire Hazards in Dorms
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, is co-hosting a quiz with the Center for Campus Fire Safety on cooking-related fires on and off campus.
The quiz, "What Kind of Cook Are You in the Kitchen?," tests college-age students on their fire safety knowledge. Participants will learn to recognize unsafe practices and replace them with more secure cooking methods that reduce the risk of a fire. Test takers are entered to win one of two $500 American Express gift cards.
"With more access to kitchens, students are making more meals or snacks using stoves and ovens, often for the first time and without proper training," said Lorraine Carli, vice president of outreach and advocacy for NFPA. "The campaign encourages students living on- and off-campus to know the risks and the preventative actions that can save their lives."

ACC Relaunches Website on Safety Information for Everyday Chemicals
The American Chemistry Council (ACC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has revamped its website on chemicals used in common products.
First launched in 2014, ChemicalSafetyFacts.org provides safety information on chemicals that are used as ingredients in the products that consumers use daily. Readers can learn about the uses and benefits of specific chemicals, and read the latest news regarding their safety. The site also has feature articles on chemical safety topics and issues, as well as relevant videos and infographics. With the recent relaunch of the site, consumers will enjoy a smoother browsing experience, mobile capabilities, and content translated into simplified Chinese and Spanish.

AGA Food Truck to Visit Capitol Hill; Tweet for Free Food!
The American Gas Association (AGA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is sponsoring a grilled cheese food truck that cooks with and is fueled by natural gas. The truck will be visiting Capitol Hill on September 19 to deliver free grilled cheese sandwiches.
The truck was created to bring attention to the benefits of natural gas for cooking, heating homes, and warming water. Homeowners are increasingly choosing to heat homes with natural gas, and households that use natural gas-powered appliances save an average of $840 a year over those with electric appliances.

AISC to Broadcast Documentary on Famous Bridge Designer for SteelDay
The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that it will broadcast a new documentary on bridge designer Ralph Modjeski.
The showing is one way that AISC is marking SteelDay2016 on September 30, a celebration hosted by AISC to bring awareness to the work and accomplishments of the American structural steel industry.
Bridging Urban America tells the story of Ralph Modjeski, who designed many of America's greatest bridges, and had a long career as an engineer, entrepreneur, artist, and innovator. The film will be broadcast from 10 am to 10 pm on September 30 for those who register to view it. It is also available for continuing education credit.
"We're excited about SteelDay 2016 because it is a celebration everyone can be involved in," said John Cross, AISC vice president. "A celebration of U.S. manufacturing, a celebration of the contributions of the structural steel industry to the built environment, and a celebration of American design and construction professionals who build with structural steel."
