ASQ and BSR Release Executive Report on Corporate Social Responsibility
A new executive brief developed by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and BSR explores the intersection between quality and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

CSR and Quality: A Powerful and Untapped Connection highlights shared concepts in quality and CSR practices, and offers next steps for both the quality community and CSR leaders. The report reveals that CSR and quality have numerous similar values and beliefs, including "do no harm," "zero-waste," "make external costs visible," and "driving out fear."

Smart Grid Panel Approves Six Standards for Catalog
The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a public-private partnership aimed at speeding the development of interoperability and cybersecurity standards to support a nationwide smart electric power grid, has approved six standards as the first entries for its new catalog of standards.

The six entries relate to high-priority national standards needed to create a modern, energy-efficient power grid with seamlessly interoperable components. The standards chosen address:

  • internet protocol standards;
  • energy use information standards;
  • use cases for communication between plug-in vehicles and the grid;
  • requirements for updating smart meters; and
  • guidelines for assessing standards for wireless communication devices.

New ASHRAE Research Program Grant Promotes Innovation in HVAC&R
A new research grant from ASHRAE, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, will provide funding for novel research that has the potential to significantly advance heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) technology.

The ASHRAE Innovative Research Grant carries a base grant of $50,000 per year for two years. An additional $25,000 is available in the third year if matched by an industrial contributor.

Approval of TAG Accreditation on Footwear
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has formally approved the accreditation of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 216, Footwear, with ASTM International, an ANSI member and audited designator, serving as TAG Administrator. Approval of TAG Accreditation on Additive Manufacturing
