The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is calling for U.S. experts to participate in a new Joint Task Force, as well as a possible Virtual Technical Advisory Group (VTAG), on database for product properties and classes (DPPC).
The purpose of the task force will be the following:
Create a common strategy with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standardization Management Board (SMB) to use the IEC Common Data Dictionary for content originating from International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and IEC committees.
Explore the options for establishing a common database with IEC for product properties, and assess the costs, benefits, feasibility, and modalities of each option.
Propose a method that describes how to support the reference data from ISO Technical Committee (TC) 184, Subcommittee (SC) 4, Industrial data, in the application of the IEC Common Data Dictionary, including what improvements are required to the dictionary to support that data.
Elaborate guidelines in the form of a practice guide for cooperation between IEC and ISO committees.
Link the study with the emerging efforts on Internet of Things (IoT), to avoid the creation of yet another standardized way to describe product properties.
