11/04/2013

Unique Event Will Touch on Domestic and International Standards and Conformity Assessment Initiatives Focused on Smart, Sustainable Communities

The November 13 registration deadline for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Smart and Sustainable Cities workshop is fast approaching. Have your voice heard on issues related to smart cities by participating in the workshop, which will be held November 21 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. This unique, interactive event will focus on three general areas:

  • innovation as the driver of smart cities,
  • coordination among several new international standards activities and other initiatives to establish smart and sustainable communities, and
  • identifying priority areas for standards development and how to get involved.

Since ANSI's last press release [see related news item], additional speakers have been confirmed:

  • Clarence Anthony, executive director, National League of Cities (opening keynote), who will address the challenges that cities are facing to achieve more efficient, more sustainable, and more resilient urban environments;
  • Alex Stuebler, vice president of strategy for Siemens Industry, Inc., who will address how Siemens is working with cities to increase efficiencies and achieve sustainability goals;
  • Mary Sotos, associate, Greenhouse Gas Protocol Project, World Resources Institute, who will describe the greenhouse gas accounting standard for city-wide emissions;
  • Dr. Francis Slakey, executive director, Georgetown University Energy Prize, who will provide an overview of a competition aimed at incentivizing communities to be more energy efficient; and
  • Paul Najarian, foreign affairs officer-ICTs, U.S. State Department, who will report on the activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) focus group on smart sustainable cities.

Advance registration by November 13 is required: $95 for ANSI members; $125 for non-members. Registration includes all materials, continental breakfast, networking breaks and lunch, and a reception immediately after the workshop. Don't delay, register online today.

Sponsorship and exhibitor packages are also still available offering organizations valuable benefits and the opportunity for first-hand involvement. Additional information can be found on the event page.
