World Standards Cooperation Announces Winner of World Standards Day Poster Contest

7/31/2017

The World Standards Cooperation this month announced Reza Rahimian of Iran as the winner of its World Standards Day 2017 poster contest, which has the theme, "Standards make cities smarter." Mr. Rahimian's poster, which will make its debut during World Standards Day 2017, was selected out of 102 submissions by the contest organizers, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The contest required contestants to submit an inspirational and creative illustration that shows how international standards contribute to making cities smarter. For his winning poster, Mr. Rahimian, an art director and advertising consultant, created "a combination of interwoven lines in [a] brain as a recognizable symbol of intelligence, and a dense city map."

For those with a creative edge who missed out on the poster contest, the World Standards Cooperation is still seeking submissions for its World Standards Day Video Competition. Read ANSI's recent news coverage to find out more about the competition.

About the World Standards Cooperation

The World Standards Cooperation (WSC) was established in 2001 by the IEC, ISO, and ITU to strengthen and advance the voluntary consensus-based international standards systems of the three organizations.

About World Standards Day

The 2017 U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day will take place on October 19, and will include a reception and gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. The event will include the presentation of the 2017 Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award, which is named after the late U.S. Secretary of Commerce and honors an individual who has effectively promoted standardization as a key tool in the elimination of global trade barriers. The 2017 World Standards Day Paper Competition winners will also be announced by the president of SES - The Society for Standards Professionals.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will serve as the event's 2017 administrating organization, while ANSI and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) serve as event co-chairs. The annual event celebrates the collaborative efforts of the thousands of public and private-sector experts that dedicate their time and expertise to the development of international standards.
