Register Now! April 1 USNC/ANSI Webinar on the Value of Standards Engagement to Emerging Professionals

3/23/2015

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will host an Emerging Professionals Webinar on April 1 from 2:00-3:30 pm EST. The free session will cover the various benefits of young professionals actively participating in standards and conformity assessment work, and is open to anyone with an interest in the opportunities standardization can provide. The USNC represents U.S. interests in IEC standards and conformance activities, and is an integrated committee of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Registration for the USNC/ANSI Emerging Professionals Webinar is now open and attendees can register here.

USNC President Phil Piqueira will moderate the session, which will feature young professional panelists discussing the following topical issues:

  • Manyphay Viengkham, client implementation manager at General Electric, a recipient of ANSI's 2013 Next Generation Award, and an IEC 2012 Young Professional Leader, will highlight the benefits of early involvement in standards work to individuals.

  • Ethan Biery, design and development leader at Lutron Electronics, a recipient of ANSI's 2014 Next Generation Award, and an IEC 2013 Young Professional Leader, will speak about the benefits to companies in having new employees involved in standards.

  • Ryan Franks, program manager at NEMA and a winner of the 2014 IEC Young Professionals Workshop competition, will provide an overview of benefits to the standards community in getting young professionals involved.

In an effort to continue to drive engagement by emerging professionals, the USNC/IEC is currently seeking nominations for the upcoming IEC Young Professionals 2015 Workshop, which will be held on October 12-16, 2015, in Minsk, Belarus, in conjunction with the 79th IEC General Meeting. Nominations can be submitted using the USNC Young Professionals Workshop Nomination Form until April 30, 2015.

Now in its sixth year, the IEC Young Professionals Workshop assembles international candidates at the beginning of their careers in electrotechnical standardization who have been chosen by IEC National Committees around the world. The program supports the increased involvement of young professionals in international electrotechnical standards and conformity assessment work, bolstering the future of technology transfer and long-term national involvement in the international standardization arena.

In addition to the USNC's Young Professionals competition, ANSI's Next Generation Awards honor individuals who have been engaged in standardization or conformity assessment activities for less than eight years and who have demonstrated vision, leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to his or her chosen field of activity. Nominations for 2015 Next Generation Awards are now being accepted, along with the full roster of ANSI Leadership and Service Awards, until June 12, 2015. The awards will be presented at a banquet held during ANSI's annual World Standards Week celebration.
