PHI Protection Network to Hold Data Protection Conference on April 10
The PHI Protection Network (PPN) will hold a conference on approaches to safeguarding protected health information (PHI). The second-annual PHI Protection Network Conference will include participation by privacy, compliance, and security officers, as well as representatives from legal and technology groups, government agencies, industry, and other organizations. Joanne McNabb, director of privacy education and policy in the California Department of Justice's privacy enforcement and protection unit, and Dr. Cris Ewell, chief information security officer at Seattle Children's Hospital, Research and Foundation, are among the scheduled speakers.

NFPA Releases New Edition of Wildfire Safety Resource Kit
ANSI member and audited designator the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released the latest version of its popular "Getting Started with Firewise" kit, a wildfire safety resource intended to be used by fire mitigation experts, insurance companies, homeowners, and others. The kit includes a DVD, a CD-ROM, and multiple brochures providing important information about wildfire risks, ways to raise awareness of the threat posed by wildfires, and methods to reduce the associated danger.

IREC Seeks Comments on Clean Energy Certificate Program Standard
ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc. (IREC) is requesting public feedback in connection with draft IREC Standard 14732:201X, General Requirements for the Accreditation of Clean Energy Certificate Programs. The scope of the standard, which IREC developed to address the need for documents assisting in the differentiation of clean energy certification and certificate programs, is focused on providing a foundation for the accreditation of certificate-awarding organizations that carry out clean energy-related programs offered by formal educational institutions and other similar entities.
The full draft standard is available online. Stakeholders and other interested parties are encouraged to provide detailed comments in connection with the current draft. All comments must be received by IREC no later than April 14, 2014; to submit comments, visit IREC's website.

NEMA Submits Application for New Accredited Standards Committee on Lighting Systems
ANSI member and accredited standards developer the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has submitted an application for the accreditation of a new NEMA-sponsored Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) on lighting systems, and has submitted proposed operating procedures overseeing the documenting of consensus on proposed American National Standards sponsored by the new ASC. The new committee's scope is focused on the development of documents, including standards and specifications, for indoor and outdoor lighting systems and their related components, with an emphasis on minimizing energy use and maintaining lighting quality.
