IEC Power Symbol Exhibited in New York's Museum of Modern Art
The ubiquitous power symbol defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard IEC 60417, Graphical symbols for use on equipment, is currently part of a display at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City.
The exhibit, "This Is for Everyone: Design Experiments for the Common Good," explores design in the digital age, from initial experiments to near-universal symbols. The exhibit will run until the end of January 2016.
IEC 60417 was developed by IEC Technical Committee (TC) 3, Information structures and elements, identification and marking principles, documentation, and graphical symbols, Subcommittee (SC) 3C, Graphical symbols for use on equipment. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, serves as the administrator of the U.S. National Committee (USNC)-approved U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to SC 3C, with NEMA's Greg Winchester acting as TAG Secretary.

SHRM Offers Tips for Job Seekers and Recruiters in Graduation Season
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, published two articles on hiring practices this season: one for recruiting college graduates, and one for landing a job after graduation.
For hiring managers looking to attract recent graduates, SHRM suggests offering benefits that are highly valued by this demographic, such as career advancement opportunities and competitive pay. Companies are also advised to provide training opportunities for highly skilled positions, and to partner with colleges and universities to make graduates aware of available positions.
SHRM advises those graduating later this spring to apply for jobs now, and extend their search to a variety of channels, including college career centers, company websites, and social networking websites. Graduates may have to temper salary expectations: 81% of companies are offering the same compensation package as 2014.

USGBC Publishes Lesser-Known Facts about Wind Energy
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, published an article with these facts about wind energy that may not be known by the average consumer:
Wind energy is clean and renewable without wasting other resources.
Wind energy companies invested $25 billion into new wind energy projects in the U.S. in 2012.
Wind energy is beneficial for organizations evaluating their environmental performance.
The article also includes statistics on wind energy's presence and prevalence in the United States. For example, wind energy provides over 50,000 active jobs across the fields of construction, development, engineering, and operations.
