UPDATE: This event has been postponed until further notice due to concerns related to COVID-19. As part of its long-term effort to support standards education, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will partake in the 2020 USA Science & Engineering Festival on April 24-26, 2020, in Washington DC. The event is an opportunity for the Institute and event partners to demonstrate the power of standards and how they support the world around us, including many aspects of students' lives. ANSI's showcase will include an interactive station that will give students a better idea of how standards work with hands-on games and activities.
ANSI invites organizations participating in the event to take part in the "U.S. Standardization System Passport" challenge, which provides kids with a paper "passport" and an incentive to visit and collect stamps from each of the organizations' festival boothsand learn more about standards along the way. The challenge had a highly successful outcome during the 2018 festival, with more than 300 students successfully visiting exhibits.

ANSI is a fourth-time participant in the USA Science & Engineering Festival, a national grassroots effort to advance STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The Institute regularly hosts and joins educational efforts to foster the next generation of professionalsas standards are a critical component of in-demand STEM occupations.
The State of STEM in the U.S.
According to statistics from the American Community Survey, computer, mathematics, statistics, and engineering majors had the largest number of college graduates working in a STEM career field, with about half employed in a STEM occupation. Despite the growth of STEM careers, other findings suggest that not enough people are developing the fundamental skills needed to succeed in STEM careers.
In support of greater STEM and standards awareness, ANSI's Committee on Education (CoE), with staff from across the Institute are set to engage students, teachers, and parents through ANSI's exhibit and an introduction to the world of standards.
