Session will focus on work of APA Smart Cities and Sustainability Task Force
On June 23 the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities (ANSSC) will host its monthly webinar from 2-3:30 pm EDT highlighting finding from the American Planning Association (APA) Smart Cities and Sustainability Task Force. The featured speaker will be Kathleen McMahon, co-chair of the APA task force.
The APA Smart Cities and Sustainability Task Force is looking at the use of information technology to further more sustainable and resilient cities and regions. This webinar will report on the Task Force's

A member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, Ms. McMahon has 30 years of city planning experience. She has a bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in educational technology from the George Washington University.
Ms. McMahon co-authored the Planning Advisory Service report "Broadband and Planning" in 2012. She is a founding member and past president of the Rural Telecommunications Congress. In 1994, she founded
Applied Communications. As part of her consulting practice, she has worked with rural areas to plan for broadband infrastructure and to promote digital literacy. She has conducted telecommunication assessments for rural counties in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Montana. She speaks frequently on strategic planning for broadband and routinely contributes articles on the topic to professional journals. She worked with the Montana Broadband program to conduct regional planning meetings throughout the state and that resulted in action plans for each region. Ms. McMahon was part of the project team for the broadband mapping projects in Montana and North Dakota. For more information on these projects visit www.appcom.net.
Participation in the June webinar is open to individuals who have joined the ANSSC, a forum for information sharing among members of the standardization community, representatives of local governments, and experts in sustainable urban infrastructure planning and development.
