DIN, the German member body to the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has submitted a proposal to ISO for a new field of technical activity on light and lighting. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal
by Friday, August 10, 2012. The proposed work area would cover the field of application of lighting in specific cases complementary to the work items of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and the coordination of drafts from the CIE. The work would be done in accordance with Council Resolution 19/1984 and Council Resolution 10/1989 concerning vision, photometry, and colorimetry; involving natural and man-made radiation over the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions of the spectrum; and application subjects covering all usages of light, indoors and outdoors, energy efficiency, environmental, non-visual biological, and health effects. All comments on the proposal should be sent to Steven P. Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy (
[email protected]). Feedback received by the August 10 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comments, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) for formal approval.
