ISO standard for Sensory Assessment of Colors
From food and cosmetics to textiles, numerous industries use sensory analysis of color to evaluate new and established products, ensure that quality is maintained, assess shelf life, and develop new products. But have you ever noticed how the way you perceive colors changes throughout the day as light and surroundings vary? Such changes can prove problematic for industry when comparing products through sensory analysis.
An international standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO 11037:2011, Sensory analysis - Guidelines for sensory assessment of the colour of products, seeks to reduce this complexity by ensuring that sensory color assessments are conducted under similar conditions and results are communicated in a consistent manner. ISO 11037:2011 establishes guidelines for the sensory evaluation of solid, semi-solid, powder and liquid products, which can be opaque, translucent, cloudy or transparent in nature, as well as matt or glossy.
The standard was developed by ISO Technical Committee (TC) 34, Food products, Subcommittee (SC) 12, Sensory analysis. The American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS) administers the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO TC 34, with ASTM International administering the U.S. TAG to ISO TC 34, SC 12.
PQMD Approved as ANSI Accredited Standards Developer
ANSI's Executive Standards Council has approved the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD), a full ANSI organizational member, as an ANSI-accredited standards developer under its proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on proposed American National Standards, effective August 19, 2011.
