ANSI Meets with Certification and Accreditation Administration of China

12/10/2010

ANSI Adds New Conformity Assessment Information to StandardsPortal

A chief topic of discussion was the addition of new conformity assessment information on StandardsPortal (www.standardsportal.org), an online resource designed to facilitate trade and exports through increased transparency on standards, regulations, and conformity assessment activities. The additional U.S content covering the history and structure of conformity assessment activities in China is now available; Chinese content will follow early next year.

The International Language of Commerce is Standards

Originally launched in 2006, the StandardsPortal (www.standardsportal.com) provides answers to standards, conformance, market access, and trade-related questions that help companies increase their business and succeed in the U.S. and abroad.

The portal currently contains information about the standards and conformity assessment systems of the U.S., the People's Republic of China, India, and the Republic of Korea.

Participants also discussed developments under the U.S.-China Conformity Assessment Project (CAP). The China CAP is a project of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) and CNCA, supported by ANSI and the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC). The initiative aims to facilitate a series of roundtable discussions with U.S. and Chinese industry, government, and conformity assessment practitioners to address concerns expressed by U.S. companies. ANSI and CNCA also discussed potential personnel exchanges between the two organizations, as well as the possibility of joint seminars, training, and other events to support U.S. and Chinese conformity assessment activities.

Meeting participants included ANSI members, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITIC), Intertek, TechAmerica, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
