ANSI Releases Agenda for Joint Member Forum Meeting during World Standards Week 2016

9/26/2016

Sessions on Drones/Unmanned Vehicles, Future of Standardization, China Standardization Reform, and more

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released the agenda for its Joint Member Forum (JMF) and Annual Business Meeting luncheon on October 26, 2016, in Washington, DC. The event will take place during World Standards Week (WSW), a series of meetings and celebrations hosted annually by the Institute, coordinator of the U.S. voluntary standardization system.

All ANSI members and interested stakeholders from government, industry, business, consumer groups, and academia are encouraged to attend and share their perspectives and expertise on integral industry news and updates that influence the standardization communities domestically and globally. The highly anticipated event will include ANSI's Annual Business Meeting luncheon, during which the Institute's president and CEO and Board chair will present updates on ANSI's recent activities, accomplishments, and strategic direction.

The day-long forum is free for all ANSI members, and will feature the following moderated panel sessions:

  • "Drones and Unmanned Vehicles: Coming to a Standards Meeting Near You," will focus on how standards can alleviate the challenges related to technologies associated with drones, unmanned aircraft systems, and unmanned vehicles, as consumer demand for these systems rises. Panel representatives from the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), SAE International, and the U.S. Department of Transportation will participate, with more panelists to be confirmed.
  • "Changing Landscape: How Will Standards and Conformance Look in 10 Years?" will explore how the standards development and conformity assessment environment will continue to evolve over the next decade, how to engage new stakeholders, and how standards and conformance programs will change. Moderated by a representative of The Boeing Company, the panel will feature the chairs of ANSI's Government Member Forum, (GMF), Company Member Forum (CMF), Organizational Member Forum (OMF), and the Consumer Interest Forum (CIF).
  • "What is the True Impact of Standardization? A New Report from the International Trade Administration (ITA)," will investigate the relationship between standards and technical regulations and goods trade, as a recent report found that standards and global technical regulations potentially affect 93 percent of global exports and 92 percent of U.S. exports. Experts from ITA will walk ANSI members through the paper and its key findings in this informative presentation.
  • "Services Initiative: Reaching New Sectors" will cover updates on ANSI's Board Task Group (BTG)on services standards, which focuses on five sectors: food safety, retail, transportation, recycling and waste management, and amusement and entertainment, with representatives from the American Dental Association, Inteleos, and additional panelists to be confirmed.
  • "China Standardization Reform" will offer the latest insights on the overhaul of China's standardization system, which may have significant implications for U.S. stakeholders, particularly industry. Speakers are set to include representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), with a moderator from Corning Incorporated.

The full agenda with speaker information is available here.

The JMF meeting and Annual Business Meeting luncheon will be held at the FHI Conference Center, Washington, DC. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 26, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including lunch. Registration is required by October 14, 2016, and is available via the ANSI WSW web page.
