Free International Delegates Training Course and Introduction to Standards Available Online

9/06/2012

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) strongly encourages individuals who are planning to serve as delegates at International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) technical committee (TC), subcommittee (SC), working group (WG), and other international standardization meetings to make use of a free multimedia training course, titled U.S. Delegates to International Activities: Roles and Responsibilities. The course is also open to corporate standards personnel and subject matter or technical experts considering participating in international standardization activities, as well as all other interested parties.

The course, available on ANSI's StandardsLearn.org website, outlines the requirements for participants in international standardization meetings, and provides advice on how to best prepare for the roles and responsibilities expected of meeting participants. The course is divided into three distinct units:

  • Why do you want to be a U.S. delegate?
  • What it means to be a U.S. delegate
  • How to be an effective delegate at international meetings

The course also sets out the benefits of standardization to U.S. organizations and the U.S. economy as a whole and provides an overview of the world of international standards, including ANSI's role in U.S. and international standardization. In addition, course participants will view video testimonials from leaders in the standardization community, highlighting the critical importance of U.S. delegate participation in international standardization.

ANSI also offers an Introduction to Standards: Why, where and how are they developed?, a course providing participants with a clear, simple overview of standards, including key definitions and terms. The course focuses on ANSI's work in domestic and international standardization and includes an overview of regional and worldwide standardization organizations. The course website is available here.
